Podcast Episode Summary
In today’s episode, we’re tackling a phrase that might hit you right in the gut:
👉 “Work harder. Nobody cares.”
I say it with love because while it’s a tough pill to swallow, it’s also one of the most freeing truths you can embrace as a person and as an artist.
This mindset shift could be the key to unlocking your full potential. So buckle up—we’re diving into the gritty, no-nonsense reality of what it really takes to succeed and why the "nobody cares" part might be the most empowering thing you hear today.
🎧 Inspired by my post on Substack: The Actors Index.
Let’s start with the truth: Nobody cares about your dream as much as you do.
And honestly, that’s the way it should be, right?
Whether you’re in voiceover, acting, writing, directing, or any other creative field, the industry isn’t designed to hold your hand. It’s competitive. It’s challenging. It requires you to show up every single day with your A-game—even when no one is watching.
The only thing that will ever matter is the work you put in.
There’s no shortcut. Talent alone won’t get you there. Connections might open doors, but if you’re not ready, they won’t keep them open. Hard work, discipline, and consistency are the game-changers.
Instead of seeing "nobody cares" as harsh, let’s flip the script—because once you accept that no one’s coming to save you, you take full ownership of your journey.
🚗 You’re in the driver’s seat.
Successful people don’t wait for motivation—they build discipline. Motivation is fleeting, but discipline is what keeps you going on the hard days, when you don’t feel like showing up.
💡 Reframe your mindset:
Instead of thinking, "I don’t feel like working today," replace it with:
✔️ "I want to be successful, so I have to do X, Y, Z."
This is how you build habits that keep you moving forward, even when you’re uninspired.
Success isn’t linear. Some days, weeks, or even months, it might feel like you're running in place.
❌ "I didn’t book anything this month… What did I even do?"
✅ Track your progress!
How to Track Your Wins:
✔️ Mark your small wins. Put a sticker on your calendar, write a note, or track it in an app.
✔️ Celebrate every step. Because when you don’t see immediate results, that’s when most people quit.
✔️ Reframe your expectations. Instead of counting bookings, track how many auditions you submitted.
🌱 Growth happens when it feels like nothing is happening. Just like a planted seed—you may not see the roots growing, but that doesn’t mean they’re not there.
The creative industry is filled with rejection. It’s inevitable. But rejection isn’t personal—it’s data.
📌 Reframe rejection as feedback. Ask yourself:
✔️ What can I learn from this?
✔️ What can I tweak for next time?
✔️ Was I the right fit for this, or should I be targeting a different audience?
Successful people don’t let rejection stop them—they use it as fuel.
Once you realize nobody cares as much as you do, you stop waiting for external validation.
🚀 You stop waiting for permission.
🚀 You stop relying on others to push you forward.
🚀 You become the driver of your success.
And guess what? The people who make it aren’t necessarily the most talented—they’re the ones who kept going when it got hard.
✔️ Ask yourself: “What’s the ONE thing I can do today that will have the biggest impact?”
✔️ Make a to-do list and prioritize wisely.
✔️ Save time by grouping similar tasks.
✔️ Example: Record voiceover samples on one day, do marketing on another.
✔️ Keep a journal, spreadsheet, or accountability tracker.
✔️ I have a FREE accountability spreadsheet—email me at [email protected], and I’ll send it to you!
✔️ Take classes, read books, and join communities that challenge and inspire you.
✔️ Join my Acting Business Boot Camp or my Voiceover Discord.
✔️ Schedule downtime. If it’s not in your calendar, you won’t do it.
✔️ Working harder does NOT mean burning yourself out.
I challenge you to take action this week. Here’s how:
Pick one small, manageable habit that will keep you disciplined on tough days.
Take a rejection you’ve received recently and find the lesson in it.
At the end of each day, write down three small wins.
🚀 Did you drink enough water? That’s a win.
🚀 Did you submit an audition? That’s a win.
🚀 Did you step outside your comfort zone? That’s a win.
Took on the challenge? I want to hear about it!
