The number one mistake that is killing your Acting Career – what is it?
If you feel slightly nauseous inside having read that sentence above, you are not alone.
In my 30 years plus of being in this Industry nothing stuns me more than the excuses I make up to avoid what I REALLY need to do to move ahead. And some of the ones I have heard from actors…are laughable.
Get real with yourself. You say you want to be a working actor more than anything else. If that REALLY is the case then why is there not action to do that EVERY DAY?
Many years ago I injured my back. I was in terrible pain. Like someone stabbing a butcher’s knife in me. I was desperate. I was limping badly. I NEEDED to get out of pain. I NEEDED to walk. I was desperate.
“Tell me what to do!” I begged my physical therapist.
“You’re not going to like it” she said.
“Anything! I cannot live like this!” I wailed.
“Six days a week you need to go to the gym and workout. You need to build up muscle to hold up your bones.”
Now if there was ANY other reason other than that incredible pain or my inability to walk, I would have smiled and said “Great. I’ll get right on that” and then maybe gone the next day, but never again after that.
But I was DESPERATE. So I said “Show me what to do”
And for that first year and a half of recovery, I only skipped two days of six day workouts. Two. And that included the days I flew across the Atlantic to go to Guildhall in London.
Amazing what desperation does for you.
So here is my question for you: Are you DESPERATE to become a working actor?
Can you not stand another day of doing the same thing over and over again and getting the same result or minimal results?
Are you sick and tired of being sick and tired?
Are you ready to not make any more EXCUSES?
It will springboard you. It will teach you. It will INSPIRE you.
And guess what number one is?
You guessed it.
Making Excuses and how that kills your Acting Career.
So go here and do it. NOW.
